I highly reccomend doing it, it is extremely enjoyable! —StehanieBowen 2008-01-31 12:38:35 OK folks. You asked for it, you got it. Do you know when or under what circumstance CAL TRANS starts to clear hwy 4 beyond the closure gate at Lake Alpine? —BobRynd 2008-03-28 12:56:41 Yes, I know anything, weather wise, can happen in April. But What if there is no more appreciable amount of snow? —BobRynd 2008-03-28 15:42:16 When does everyone think the roads will be plowed this year? —StephanieBowen 2008-03-29 09:00:28 Word has it, that 'they' are starting to plow the pass- takes some work to get down thru the ice pack. The hope is always to have it cleared by Mem weekend. —SusiLewis 2008-03-29 09:02:05 As for roads in town, when it begins to be sparse in spots (dangerous for sleds) and it is too hard to even out the pack, then they plow. Sheriff Rick and Greg P make the call, when it is time. —SusiLewis 2008-04-26 05:55:12 Great new slide show by Bob under "Pics" of his trip up to Underwood Valley. —DanAhlborn 2008-05-03 09:21:12 Ebbetts Pass will open on the 9th. Subdiv roads beginning on the 5th... give em a few days to tidy it up. My luck.. to miss being the first over again! going to the coast instead. —SusiLewis 2008-05-07 14:54:02 Susi, do you have any information on the opening of the road to Highland lakes? —BobRynd 2008-07-21 12:20:04 HISTORY BUFFS: Sun July 27, in the BV Music Tent at 2pm, Ebbetts Pass Historical Assoc will have two speakers: one on Jedediah Smith, and one on Monte Wolf by my Uncle who knew him. COME OUT! —SusiLewis 2008-07-21 12:22:08 The other expert speaking on Jed Smith will be Eric Jung.... He has new info on Jed's possible route across our summit. —SusiLewis 2008-07-26 22:36:06 I could not make it today... was a video or recording or anything else made of the presentation today? —TonyZuccarino 2008-07-29 10:06:06 I'm sorry I missed the history presentation(wife & I 23rd anniversary), first hand accounts are priceless. Did anyone video the presentation? —BobRynd 2008-07-31 07:44:05 We had a great turnout for the History Program. Yes, it was audio taped, and videoed.... it will take some time to reproduce both, but check back this fall at the Museum!! I will be there then, working on that- instead of Music festivals and Forest Service. —SusiLewis 2008-09-17 06:32:32 Info for you: Campgrounds in Alpine and above will be CLOSING after last weekend of Sept. Closing means, water off, no fees. All the up country cg's close also, but really don't lock the gates, just turn off water and quit servicing. Be sure to have Campfire permit from now on, and check back for new restrictions on signage or at Cal RD 7951381. Bye bye Summer! —SusiLewis 2008-09-17 11:31:56 Thanks for info Susi. I was hoping to get at least 1 more weekend/overnight in the backcountry before the weather turns. —BobRynd 2008-10-21 08:31:23 RE: the History program this summer, the 'supposed' cd the crew was to make that day, has never turned up. Many of the recordings are missing, so am not sure if they got stuck in storage or just didn't happen. I am sick over it. Not sure if the outside party who videoed has good sound to it. Haven't heard back from him yet. If I had known, I would have brought my own recorder. DANG. —SusiLewis 2008-10-21 15:59:57 that is really too bad... really. —TonyZuccarino 2008-12-11 15:57:54 Google just added Street View to Bear Valley: 2008-12-11 21:05:58 hard to believe Google sent cars all the way out here?! —TonyZuccarino 2008-12-23 07:09:38 It will be a white christmas in bv! Drive safe everyone! —StephanieBowen 2008-12-24 17:13:37 the site is a bit slow due to heavy traffic... —TonyZuccarino 2008-12-24 18:39:39 power just blinked off... so if the weather data goes down, you know why... we do have a UPS but it's short lived. —TonyZuccarino 2008-12-24 20:00:45 keep a couple candles lit, and hope the power doesn't blink again. My PC is always on, so I worry about the brownouts. I, too, need a new battery backup/surge protector. duh. And, I remember the days when we didn't have anything on that mattered, and loved the outtages, so could light the kerosene lamps and play cards or just go to bed. I sound ancient, don't I. —SusiLewis 2008-12-25 10:53:19 THIS WEBSITE MAY GO OFF THE AIR DUE TO POWER OUTAGES... CHECK BACK LATER IF YOU SEE AN ERROR MESSAGE IN YOUR BROWSER. —TonyZuccarino 2008-12-25 11:05:17 I am thinking I should shut down, after that last blip in power. Stuff can certainly get messed up, and I can't afford another modem run this year. Been thru 3 already. Hope your system stays safe, Tony. I need to go shovel anyway. —SusiLewis 2008-12-25 13:00:50 Susie, you say you went through 3 modems... why... because of lightning or ? —TonyZuccarino 2009-03-26 17:06:05 Nice job on "Eye on the Bay" TV show. Good promo video piece. All BV'ers presented well. Good to see Dave and Kathy. —JohnDralla 2009-03-27 18:11:00 Definitely a good piece that KPIX did for their Eye on the Bay. I had to go online to see it though..... it needs to have fuller coverage..........It was as cozy and comfy and true as you can get. Truth be told about BV. I loved it. —SusiLewis 2009-03-27 18:12:41 Sorry, Tony I just say your msg from Dec.......ack! where was I? anyway... yes modems fry easily with surges, but now I have a beefy new surge protector/ups upgrade. My old one, was just that, old. Sometimes I wonder where my memory is, cuz I should have upgraded decades ago. —SusiLewis 2009-04-06 10:17:03 The 09-10 Season Passes for the ski area are on sale $299 (got mine). I was looking at the pricing for my 16 year old daughter and considering that, BUT what caught my eye was the "super senior" rate for over 75 - $39! I hope I'm still skiing at 75! Nick there are nice benefits to retiring! —BobRynd 2009-04-06 17:47:36 my dad was still skiing at 77. there is HOPE ! —SusiLewis 2009-04-06 19:10:52 $299 is pretty motivating actually... I for sure did not get my $450 worth of skiing this year. —TonyZuccarino 2009-05-22 10:52:43 Memorial Day is upon us. I'v heard the Forest Service Campgrounds are opening this weekend as well as Lake Alpine resort. Last weekend Lake Alpine was still covered 75% with ice - anyone for a refreshing dip in the water? But, Spicer was to open, probably Utica and Union Lake. I was up at Ebbetts Pass last Sunday(actually Tryon Peak) and could see that Highland Lakes were still very snowbound (as were the peaks around the lakes) —BobRynd 2009-05-22 16:18:15 None of our high country CG's are accessible yet...but Big Meadow, a bit of W Alpine, and maybe some at Silvertip, and of course, WakaLu . People are camping at Stan R CG, but no water pumps yet, no charge yet. Yes, can get to Ut/Un lakes, but is quite muddy in and around. Spicer is open. Thx for reminding me to do the update..You KNOW more than I? ha ha. —SusiLewis 2009-05-22 16:30:12 Actually Susi, I was proding you to do an update. —BobRynd |

Getting Started
First, check out the Wiki Guide. This is a good place to start! You'll learn the basics of editing a wiki.
A Wiki is a linked set of web pages that anybody can edit and contribute to without knowing anything about websites.
After reading that stuff, and playing around in the Wiki Sand Box, check out our FAQ. We also have a Title Index with all the pages in the wiki.
Feel free to make new pages — just remember to link them. Also, if you don't know where to start or don't have any ideas, check out To Do
