Biking

Road biking is big here in the Sierra. Beautiful views, clean (if not thin) air, and little traffic await your pedals.

Here is someone's ride from [WWW]Bear Valley to Markleeville.

The ultimate biking challenge, of course, is the [WWW]Death Ride, aptly named. Held in the summer (next one is July 12, 2008), the route
Death Ride Map
is centered in Markleeville (seat of Alpine County), and doesn't quite make it down to Bear Valley. But Bear Valley is an ideal staging ground for before and after the race.

My favorite mountain bike ride in the Bear Valley area is the Bear Trap Basin loop. Park at the Corral Hollow road at the far west end of Bear Valley near the Calaveras County line. This ride is best in July when most of the snow has melted. Here are some pictures from the ride. [WWW]Bear Trap Basin Pictures.

[WWW]Ebbetts Pass Century & [WWW]Bear Valley Metric Century - August 16, 2008.
Bonus: first 100 registrations receive automatic space in the 2009 Death Ride!

2008-06-27 06:15:15   Hey All, Anyone up for a Mt Bike ride this weekend? I'll was planning on biking this weekend. Thinking about starting in town, up to Bear Valley summit and down the backside to Elusive Trail and back down to town. —BobRynd

2008-06-27 10:59:00   I'd like to but I'll be stuck in the Bay Area. I rode in BV last weekend and the trails were (mostly) in great shape. I plan to be back in the area July 18-20. Any interest in riding then? —PaulMoody

2008-06-27 14:13:30   Paul, I'm always up for a ride. As it looks now, I should be up that weekend as well. Be sure to mark your calendar for Aug 16-17, MAS's Adventure Sports Festival. This is a fun event for the whole family. [WWW]http://www.adventuresportsfestival.com/BobRynd

2008-07-17 13:22:34   MTB anyone? Paul? I did the "honey-do" list last week. This weekend I get to have fun. So, biking and/or hiking is in the picture. —BobRynd

2008-07-18 20:16:52   Hi Bob. Sorry, it's a no-go for me. Looks like I won't be up there again until the end of August/beginning of September. —PaulMoody

2008-08-08 10:14:50   Reminder: The Outdoor Adventure Festival is next weekend. Tommorow is the cutoff for early registration. I would highly recommend this event. It has something for everyone and it's always a lot of fun - great people/ fun times in the mountains. This year they've added Frisbee golf, MTB tours, and a "Slow Bike Race". It's all in the name of fun. My wife loves the outdoors, yet we are at very differant levels of physical abilities. But the OAF has events that we can do together, like the Kayak/paddldle/lunch on Lake Alpine. Sign up today! [WWW]http://www.adventuresportsfestival.com/BobRynd

2008-08-08 10:16:53   Oh yeah, I registered for the Grizzly Challenge. Anyone want to a loop or two tomorrow as a warmup? —BobRynd
